"They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel" -- Carol Buchner
"Good teaching is more a giving of right questions than a giving of right answers" -- Josef Albers "A hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much money I had in the bank...but the world may be a better place because I made a difference in the life of a child" -- Forest Witcraft
To me, teaching is something that you need to love to do. If you don't absolutely love it then you won't be happy, you can't just like it. You need to want to go to work, it shouldn't be considered a chore. Teaching is loving your students and wanting what is best for them. It is working with your co-workers learning how to work together with different types of people. Learning to be a teacher is to share your different views and opinions and ideas with other people and letting them do the same to you. It is about learning to take criticism and using it to make you a better teacher. You need to learn how to beselfless, patient, understanding, thoughtful, and compassionate. Your students need to feel comfortable coming to you about anything. You are their role model. Education to me is not just about teaching students math or science or reading or writing. It is installing them with life skills. They are with you for a majority of their day and you need to be the one to teach them that stuff. They might not learn it at home, you might be all that they have. As I mentioned before, you are their role model and you might be all they have. You need to always be there for them and show them that you care about them.
There are a lot of very well known teachers. One however that has always stood out to me was Anne Sullivan. Anne Sullivan was the teacher of Helen Keller. Anne Sullivan herself was blind. She changed the world forever by educating both deaf and blind Helen Keller.
